Will it work on my skin?
Most clinics quietly turn away deeper skin tones, or use a weaker laser on them. The Motus AY doesn't work that way. Choose the tone closest to yours and see exactly how we'd treat you.

Yes — we can treat you
This is where most clinics start compromising. Traditional Alexandrite lasers are not considered safe above Type III, so many salons switch you to a weaker diode or Nd:YAG. With Moveo we do not have to. The cooled tip and gradual multi-pass heating let us keep the gold-standard wavelength at a safe fluence — the effectiveness of Alexandrite without the risk it used to carry on your skin.
Skin types I to VI are all treatable on the Motus AY. Message Rose on WhatsApp and she'll confirm exactly how she'd treat your skin.
The Fitzpatrick scale describes how your skin responds to sun, not the colour you see in a mirror. Rose confirms your type in person at your free consultation.
What we treat
The Motus AY carries two wavelengths, so it treats far more than unwanted hair. Every treatment below is delivered by the same medical-grade system, by the same clinician, in the same room.
Face, body, Hollywood, legs, underarms, back and chest. Permanent hair reduction on every skin tone, with sessions measured in minutes rather than hours.
The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength targets the dilated vessels behind persistent flushing and redness, calming the skin without touching the surface.
Fine visible vessels on the face and legs are heated and closed off in a few short sessions. No injections, no downtime, no compression stockings.
Age spots, sun spots and uneven patches are broken down by the laser and cleared naturally by your skin, leaving a more even, brighter tone.
Laser skin tightening stimulates collagen and refines texture across the whole face, for skin that looks firmer and smoother across a short course.
Laser energy passes through the nail plate to heat and disable the fungus underneath. A clinical alternative when creams and lacquers have failed.
Laser reduces the inflammation behind active breakouts, and clears the ingrown hairs and razor bumps (PFB) that make shaving painful for many men.
The technology
At Beam Clinic we use the Lynton Motus AY, combining two clinically established laser wavelengths — 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG — allowing us to tailor your treatment to your individual skin type, hair characteristics and treatment area.
A highly controlled, comfortable approach to laser hair removal. Moveo's contact-cooled sapphire tip glides continuously over the skin, gradually building heat within the target rather than delivering individual high-energy shots. This makes treatment exceptionally comfortable and, with the appropriate settings and clinical assessment, allows the Alexandrite wavelength to be used on a much broader range of skin types.
For clients where a deeper-penetrating wavelength is more appropriate, the Nd:YAG provides a different treatment approach. Its longer wavelength penetrates deeper into the skin, making it particularly valuable when treating darker skin types and for selected vascular and pigmented concerns.
Not every skin type, hair type or treatment area responds in the same way. Having access to both Alexandrite and Nd:YAG technology means your treatment can be individually selected rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Combined with Moveo contact cooling and advanced laser technology, this allows us to prioritise safety, comfort and effective energy delivery for your individual needs.
The same platform is used in NHS settings, including paediatric dermatology — a level of clinical trust most high-street devices never reach.
The science, in plain terms
Your hair isn't all growing at once. A laser can only disable a follicle that's actively growing — which is exactly why a course works and a one-off doesn't. Here's what's happening under the skin.
1 · The hair growth cycle
The hair is rooted deep in the follicle and packed with melanin. That pigment absorbs the laser energy and carries the heat down to the follicle. This is the only phase where laser works.
Laser is effective
2 · What a course actually does
Each session disables the follicles that happen to be in their growth phase that day. Miss the schedule and the follicles cycle out of range — which is why spacing matters as much as the laser.
Typical cumulative reduction across a course: 22% after one session, 54% by session three, 79% by session six and 87% by session eight.
Illustrative. Real results vary with skin tone, hair colour, hormones and the area treated.
3 · What happens after each session
Slight swelling around each follicle — called perifollicular oedema. It's the sign the laser reached its target. Settles within hours.
Treated hairs look like they're growing back, then work their way out and fall away. This is the single most misread stage — it's the treatment working, not failing. Don't wax or pluck.
Different follicles, waking into their own growth phase. Finer and patchier than before. Shave as normal.
Timed to catch that fresh wave while it's still in anagen. Keeping to the schedule is the part you control.
Laser for men
Around a third of our enquiries come from men — and most arrive because shaving has stopped working for them. Coarse beard hair, razor bumps along the neck, or a back and chest that need constant attention.
Laser handles all of it. You can reduce density without removing hair entirely, sharpen a beard line permanently, or clear the back and shoulders completely. No stubble, no ingrown hairs, no monthly waxing appointment.

Why courses are priced this way. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects follicles in their active growth phase, so a course is what actually clears an area. The 10-session course is priced to be the strongest value; single and 8-session options are derived from it.
About the crossed-out prices. Beam Laser Clinic has just opened, so everything on this page is an introductory launch price. The struck-through figure is the standard price the clinic will move to when the launch period ends — it is not a price we have previously charged. Launch prices are available for a limited time only.
You are never pushed into a package. Start with a single session if you would rather.
Consultation and patch test are free. Prices include VAT and are correct at the time of publishing. All treatments are subject to consultation, patch testing and clinical suitability, and the number of sessions needed varies between clients.
What happens next
A proper conversation about your skin, your hair, your medical history and what you actually want to achieve. Around thirty minutes.
A small test area is treated so we can see how your skin responds. Required at least 24 to 48 hours before your first full session.
Once the patch test settles, you get a realistic session count, spacing and total cost. Then you decide — there's no obligation at any point.
Sessions every four to six weeks, tracked as you go. Most people see noticeable shedding after the second or third appointment.
Your clinician
I opened Beam Laser Clinic on Wandsworth High Street with one aim: to help you feel confident, comfortable and happy in your own skin.
I hold a bachelor's degree in aesthetics and I'm a GDC registered professional, so your safety sits ahead of everything else in how I work. That means honest advice about what laser can and can't do for you, a treatment plan built around your skin rather than a package on a price list, and the same clinician looking after you from consultation through to your last session.
If you've been told before that your skin tone rules you out of laser, I'd particularly like to see you. With this technology, it very likely doesn't.
Client feedback
Real feedback from people treated at the clinic, shared with their permission.
I was struggling with veins showing through at the back of my legs and I would always be conscious of them. Since the first session with Rose I have already noticed a change, and I'm feeling happy about my upcoming appointments. Beam has been great so far.
I was really struggling with ingrown hairs around my beard line. Having laser hair removal with Rose has really helped me get my confidence back, and she really put me at ease. The treatment was not as painful as I expected.
Proof, not promises
Reviews are one thing. These are the facts about the clinic you can verify independently, without taking anyone's word for it.
Rose is GDC registered. You can look her up on the General Dental Council's public register yourself — registration is searchable by anyone, at any time.
The Lynton Motus AY is FDA cleared and supplied to the NHS. Lynton is a British manufacturer and lists its approved clinics — the machine in our room is the one on the box.
You don't have to take our word for how your skin responds. The consultation and patch test cost nothing, and you can walk away afterwards owing us nothing.
Session count, spacing and total cost, given to you on paper after your patch test — before you pay for anything. No verbal estimates that drift upwards.
All 94 of them are on this page, single sessions and courses alike. Nothing is held back for a consultation-room conversation.
We've said on this page that laser won't reliably work on blonde, grey or red hair, and that PCOS needs a longer course. A clinic that only tells you the good parts isn't telling you everything.
Been to us already? A review from you would genuinely help someone else decide — especially anyone who has been turned away elsewhere because of their skin tone. Message Rose and she'll send you the link.

Yes — with the right laser. Older Alexandrite systems could only safely treat skin types I to III, because the laser struggles to tell the difference between pigment in the hair and pigment in the skin. The Motus AY solves this with Moveo delivery: lower energy, spread across repeated passes, with a cooled sapphire tip in constant contact with the skin. It's the first FDA-approved Alexandrite laser cleared for all skin types, I through VI. Your patch test confirms it for your skin specifically before we begin.
Far less than you're expecting, and far less than waxing. Traditional lasers fire single high-energy pulses, which is where the familiar elastic-band snap comes from. Moveo builds heat gradually while the cooled tip glides over the skin, so most people describe it as warm rather than sharp. No numbing cream needed for the vast majority of areas.
Six to eight is typical for most areas, spaced four to six weeks apart, which is why our prices are listed as courses as well as single sessions. The 10-session course is priced to be the best value. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects follicles in their active growth phase, which is why a course is necessary rather than a one-off.
Hormone-driven areas need more — chin, upper lip and jawline commonly run to eight or ten sessions, and a full beard reduction can be more again. If you have PCOS, expect a longer course and occasional top-ups. We give you a realistic number in writing after your patch test rather than a guess on day one.
Yes, always, and it's free. A small area is treated so we can see how your skin reacts over the following 24 to 48 hours. It's non-negotiable for your safety and it needs repeating for each new area of the body. You'll have your consultation and patch test in the same visit.
Stop waxing, plucking, threading and epilating four to six weeks before you start — the laser needs the follicle intact to work. Shaving is fine and actively encouraged.
Shave the area closely the day before. Come with clean skin: no make-up, moisturiser, deodorant or fake tan on the areas being treated. Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds for two weeks beforehand.
Expect mild redness and a slight warmth for a few hours, occasionally up to a day. Keep the area cool and moisturised with something plain and unfragranced.
For 24 to 48 hours: no hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools or intense exercise. Skip deodorant if underarms were treated. Avoid retinoids, acids and scrubs on the area for three to seven days. Use SPF 30 to 50 daily on any treated skin that sees sunlight, for at least two weeks. You'll get all of this in writing after your first session.
Not straight away. A fresh tan raises the pigment in your skin, which changes how the laser behaves and increases the risk of a burn or pigment change. Leave it around two weeks after real sun exposure, and longer if you've caught the sun badly. Fake tan must be fully washed off — it doesn't protect you, but it does interfere with the treatment. Book your course around your holidays rather than the other way round, and we'll help you plan it.
Honestly, not reliably. The laser targets melanin, the pigment in the hair itself. Dark brown and black hair responds best; light blonde, white, grey and true red hair contain very little melanin, so there's not enough for the laser to find. Fine fair hair responds better with the Motus AY than most systems, but we'll tell you plainly at your consultation if laser isn't the right route for you rather than take your money.
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons women come to us. Polycystic ovary syndrome keeps stimulating new hair growth, so laser reduces and manages the hair rather than eliminating it permanently. Plan for a longer initial course and periodic maintenance sessions afterwards. Results are still significant — most clients find it transforms how much time they spend managing hair.
We don't treat during pregnancy. There's no evidence laser harms a pregnancy, but it hasn't been formally studied in pregnant women, and hormonal changes make results unpredictable anyway. We'd rather wait. Breastfeeding is generally fine away from the chest — mention it at your consultation and we'll advise.
A few. Tell us at consultation if you have a history of hyperpigmentation, melasma, eczema, psoriasis, vitiligo or keloid scarring, if you're on Roaccutane or photosensitising medication, or if you're prone to cold sores and want the area around the mouth treated. None of these are automatic refusals, but they change how we plan and pace your treatment. That's exactly what the consultation is for.
Yes. Consultation and patch test are free as part of our opening offer, with no obligation to book anything afterwards. You'll get honest advice on whether laser suits your skin and hair, a realistic session count and a total cost — then you go away and think about it if you'd like to.
